Project Description

Harvey Milk Park was an existing public plaza/park located in Downtown Long Beach. Redevelopment of private commercial retail/restaurants and parking structure adjacent to the plaza triggered a cause to upgrade the public space. HAI provided public outreach and garnered community support for the design of an LBGTQ Honor Wall with various stakeholder groups including downtown resident associations, business groups with high involvement by the Mayor and his aides. HAI redesigned the park to allow for public gathering and events, a place for protest as well as support. A stage was included adjacent to the 30’x30’ mural we designed and ushered production of solar phone charging station, benches, bike racks, ping pong table, landscape and lighting are also part of the design. The project was designed utilizing, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch Up and Photoshop.
